Good News to the Poor

In Luke 4, Jesus quotes the prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor… release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind…”

Jesus begins his public ministry by saying this is what guides him. It connects ancient vision to current focus.

How do you think about Jesus’ ministry? In what ways do we share in this “inaugural vision” in our community? What form do you think “good news to the poor, release to the captives, or recovery of sight to the blind” would take in our day? How about in your daily life?

Close your eyes for a minute and feel the moment. What are some ways Jesus can bring good news to people in our community, or release from that which binds them?
