Here I Am

In Luke 1, Mary said, “Here I am. Let it be according to your word.”

Mary is no milquetoast doormat! Mary has strength of spirit in that she holds the angel to the word of promise – let it be according to your word! Mary is Christ-bearer, theotokos in Greek. How are you a Christ-bearer in your own way?

Part of the Advent promise is that Christ is beside us. As Mary expects the Christ child growing within her, how can you open your very being to Christ? How can you say, “Here I am” and open yourself to the Christ-child this week?

Have you ever felt like Mary, with deep joy alongside so much difficulty? Do you sense this “other” reality while you gaze at Christmas lights or think about loved ones in this season?

People of St. Timothy, we are coming so close to Christmas, even though it will be different from our fond expectations. God grant you the encircling grace that holds you through it all.
