Luke 3 says, “When Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved, with you I am well pleased.’”

Luke’s gospel highlights the role of prayer. It was while Jesus was praying after the baptism that the gospel says the Spirit descended and a heavenly voice proclaimed Jesus’ belovedness. What is prayer for you? How do you enter prayer — what attitude, bodily movement, words, or silence?

The heavenly voice proclaims that Jesus is God’s beloved child. What does baptism mean to you? Do you hear the promise that God calls you a beloved child, too?

Who in your world needs to hear the message that they also are beloved children with whom God is pleased? How could you share that with them — through time, food, presence, activity?

People of St. Timothy — Thanks for the many ways you share the message of being beloved with others in your families, neighborhoods, and society!
