Justice Seekers’ Advocacy

Who we are:

We trace our beginnings to St. Timothy’s new mission as inspired by Micah 6:8, “And what does the Lord require of you? To do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God” and St. Timothy’s new vision: God is calling us to be a diverse community that welcomes one another to the journey of seeking to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbors as ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-39).

Inspired by this mission and vision, a core group of Justice Seekers is tasked to assist the St. Timothy community in seeking justice in all its activities so that individuals, families and children in our neighborhood and beyond will experience the fullness of God’s justice.

What do we do?

  • Continuing education and learning on a range of topics using an array of formats. The monthly topics are open to the public and the community. See the annual calendar in our Resource Folder at the link below.
  • On-going advocacy – While advocacy is a year-round effort it is more intensive during the Minnesota Legislative session when we advocate for policies that would contribute to people experiencing God’s justice. Sample letters on federal and state legislative bills are available in the Resource Folder on this site and in the narthex. Occasionally, there are letter-writing activities in between worship services. During election cycles, we will also have the opportunity to join ISAIAH in “Claiming Our Voices Faith Agenda.”
  • In partnership with – MICAH (The Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing), ISAIAH (a faith-based organization that equips congregations and people of faith to work towards racial and economic equity in Minnesota), Advocates for Human Rights, Interfaith Action, other area churches as well as individuals who are victims of racial injustice and homelessness – we are on a journey to proclaim God’s merciful justice to all.

Join us!

We are challenged to develop genuine relationships, generous partnerships and unconditional openness to one another because doing justice entails addressing the root causes of injustice and its embeddedness in many systems.  Whether you have 1 hour a week or 10 hours or more, there’s every opportunity to seek justice at St. Tim’s.
