Strong Winds

Written by St. Timothy

August 6, 2020

But when Peter noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” (Mt 14:30)

Strong winds – whether literal or figurative – can cause us fear. Peter shows that doubt and sinks into the water. How do you feel yourself sinking these days?

In this Sunday’s scriptures, we see several times where Elijah and Jesus feel buffeted by events and need to go to a quiet place and listen for still silence. Where do you find the silent depth to sustain you for daily life? In a quiet place at home, or a walk in the woods, or music?

In each case, Jesus, Elijah and Peter went on to strive to bring God’s message of healing, justice, and renewal. Who inspires you to love and healing in your life?

Peace, Hans
